Herndon is bounded by the Dulles Toll Road to the south, Rock Hill Road to the west, Route 286 to the east and Bennett Street to the north. Reston borders the town to the east, Oak Grove and later Sterling to the north, Chantilly to the south and Dulles Airport dominates the western end of the town. Great Falls and Vienna are also a short drive away.

Things to Do in Herndon
Herndon is home to an array of fine restaurants and dance club destinations. Amphora’s Diner Deluxe is a wonderful spot located on Elden Street. This restaurant has a huge menu filled with breakfast, lunch and dinner choices. Amphora’s is known for its fabulous Greek dishes, desserts and drinks. Another interesting spot is down a couple blocks at Mellow Mushroom. This famous chain is known for their funky, art-filled decor with a large menu that features craft beer, calzones, and creative stone-baked pizzas. Jimmy’s Old Town Tavern is a local favorite located on Spring Street and is a popular destination for Buffalo sports fans. Locals here gather in this cozy, vintage tavern for drinks, pool and pub grub.
Since Herndon is next door to Reston, many residents also enjoy traveling to nearby Reston Town Center on Market Street. This European-style outdoor mall has shops, restaurants, a multiplex and a pavilion for seasonal events. Some notable shops include Apple Store, JoS A. Bank, J. Crew, Ann Taylor and Banana Republic.
Enjoying the Great Outdoors in Herndon
Herndon boasts a wide variety of diversions and celebrations year-round, including free concerts from May to August, the Farmer’s Market that runs from May to October and Big Truck Day. Other events include the Labor Day Jazz Festival, Motorcycle Poker Run and the Herndon Festival, which runs for four days. Herndon is also home to the Herndon Depot Museum, the site of Mosby’s Raid on Herndon Station, which occurred during the Civil War on St. Patrick’s Day, 1863.
Herndon Community Center is a wonderful spot for recreational activities. This award-winning facility features a fitness room, three racquetball courts, an indoor pool and a gym. The park includes lighted basketball courts, lighted tennis courts, multiple baseball fields, a play lot and plenty of multi-purpose fields as well.
Major Roads & Public Transportation
Herndon’s Metro station is being constructed, but nearby Reston has the Wiehle-Reston East Metro station, running on the Silver line. With construction set to be completed in the year 2020, the Silver Line will extend through Herndon and into Loudoun County. Dulles Airport is a short drive away and is one of the main airports serving Washington, DC. Route 267 is one of the main east-west routes in the area. Other important routes in Herndon include Route 606, 228, 286, and 657.
Making Your Home in Herndon
Herndon is the largest of three towns in Fairfax County. Its proximity to Reston allows for ample amounts of nightlife choices as well as direct access to a Metro station. Nearby Dulles Airport is a plus, as well the affordable housing and recreational activities.
